Recess Information

Students go out for recess everyday for 30 minutes. As the cold weather approaches, we are often asked how we determine whether or not students go out. We use guidelines found on the commonly used chart, the Child Care Weather Watch, developed by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Generally, if the temperature is above 30˚F, students will go outside. Once the temperature begins to drop, we consider both air temperature and the wind chill factor. Please make sure your child comes to school prepared to go outside – they should wear long pants, a winter coat/jacket, hat and gloves.
